Like most useful things in life, this book started with a problem that had no real solution.

My sister had just begun working with a nutritionist and was tracking every gram of food with precision. Around the same time, my partner began his own food tracking journey. Both of them needed one thing above all else: accuracy.

I remembered having a calorie reference book in high school and thought how helpful it would be to have something similar now, a way to double-check what the apps were telling us. But when I went looking, every option fell short. They were either based on American data, missing key foods, poorly reviewed, or so clunky you didn’t actually want to use them.

So I built the resource I couldn’t find. I went straight to the FSANZ database (the official Australian food standards database) and spent months categorising and organising the data into something clear, practical, and - dare I say - actually nice to look at.

The result is this book: a trusted, easy-to-navigate nutrition guide built from real Australian data. It’s been a game-changer for my family, and I believe it can be for you too.

Apps are fantastic, but they’re not perfect. This book gives you a reliable tool in your toolbox, a way to cross-check, spot errors, and feel confident about what you’re putting into your body.
